SAVANNAH, GA – The South Carolina State golf teams swept the team and individual honors at the 36-hole Savannah State Tiger Fall Invitational that concluded Tuesday at the Par-71 Henderson Creek Golf Course. Both teams are coached by Herman Belton.
The SC State men, in an eleven-team field, carded a second-round total of 310 Tuesday to go with Monday's opening-round 304 for a 36-hole total 614, 13 strokes ahead of Florida A&M and North Carolina Central, who tied for second at 627. It was the second victory in three outings for the Bulldogs, who were led by freshman Roberto Cacho, who had a 36-hole total of (75-74) 149 to capture medalist honors.
The Lady Bulldogs, one of five teams in the women's competition, carded a 36-hole total of (348-345) 693 to outdistance runner-up Hampton, which was 13 strokes back at (349-357) 706. SC State sophomore Honesty Biggers earned medalist honors with a two-day total of (79-77) 156.
Following Cacho in the competition for the SC State men were Alejandro Bernardini with a (78-77) 155, Robert Biggers at (79-77) 156, Hector Arroyave (76-82) at 158 and John Jones at (75-88) at 163.
Supporting Biggers on the women's squad were Addi McLaren with a (84-85) 169, Danielle Williams at (89-94) 183, and Geneva Mackey at 996-89) 185.
Belton, who is in his third year as women's coach at SC State, also took over as coach of the men's team this year after the retirement of longtime coach Richard Arrington.
